Iceberg

Iceberg is an exercise that allows students to explore what is implicit and explicit within a text. Students are given a worksheet with a simple drawing of an iceberg on it. Little of the iceberg breaches the water, the majority lies beneath the surface. Through writing what is readily evident at the top of the iceberg, students are analyzing the text at face value. For social studies, this exercise can be used as a pre-reading activity and post-reading activity to help students absorb content as well as keep track of their notes.
