Reciprocal Teaching

This literacy based strategy is definitely one for the figurative Hall of Fame. Reciprocal teaching demands high levels of critical thinking by acting as a role playing activity where students assume four various positions. These roles include a questioner, a clarifier, a summarizer, and a predictor; all are key aspects of upper level thinking. I can easily see this strategy constantly being used in the classroom with primary source activities and document based questions. Students can peer or reciprocal teach within their groups and even in front of the class. Alterations of this strategy include text book chapter readings, review material, scholarly journal entries, and newspaper entries.
