Story Map

The story map literacy based strategy is a graphic organizer used at the end of a lesson. Because of this, it is not considered a note taking guide, but rather a post reading exercise. In a social studies classroom, the Story Map graphic organizer can be used like a timeline, keeping students on track with events, cause and effect, and the impacts of certain historical events. For example, students can use a Story Map after learning about the Great Depression. They will look at its setting, the problems, the outcomes, and the significance of the event overall. Other possible topics include the Civil Rights movement and any major war.
