Word Scramble Prediction

The Word Scramble Prediction literacy based strategy, although not originally a note-taking strategy, can be altered for social studies classrooms as a note taking guide. Normally, the activity makes use of seemingly random words that students are instructed to organize and categorize. The same concept could be used in social studies classrooms, but the addition of having students take notes on each term, concept, event, or historical figure would benefit their learning. For example, while conducting a lesson on the Vietnam War, a Word Scramble Prediction could be given out to students in the beginning of class and students would sort the words and then use their sorted list as a note taking guide for lecture. An example term would be the Tet Offensive.
